Aberdeen & North East Beer Festival
Staff Rules
First of all, thanks for your help.
In order to make the festival life easier, and hopefully more pleasurable, for everyone there are some rules. They are designed to try and keep everyone safe and to comply with the laws governing such events.
If you have any questions or problems with the festival please ask one of the committee. They will be wearing their committee badge.

- CAMRA Members
- For reasons of insurance you must be a CAMRA member.
- On Arriving at the Festival:
- Please report to the Staffing Officer who will give you an introductory safety briefing, give you a staff badge and assign you to a job (see Staff Beer).
- You will be asked to sign that you have read and agree to follow these guidelines.
- Please try not to lose your staff badge. It must be worn at all times while working, it’ll get you past the security to the staff room, staff discount on food and is also your re-entry into the festival venue. The badge must be returned to the Staffing Officer at the end of your working day.
- The staffing officer will attempt to give you work in your preferred area. However from time to time you may be asked to work in other areas to cover temporary shortages.
- If you want a break within the hours you originally said you would work, please ask the staffing officer who will attempt to arrange cover. Please report back to the staffing officer as soon as you return.
- If You Cannot Work
- We try to ensure that there are sufficient staff on duty at all times. Please notify the staffing officer if you cannot work at the times that you originally indicated. Working extra hours is usually not a problem!
- Staff Beer
- Staff can drink while on duty, but staff cannot actually be drunk while working.
- For each hour worked staff will be given a staff beer ticket. This will entitle you to a half pint of cask beer of ABV 4.5% or less. Tickets can be saved up and used at sessions when you have chosen not to work. Tickets will be only be issued by the staffing officer or deputy, hence the importance of reporting to the staffing officer when you start working.
- After hours the beer will, as usual, be free, but beer choice may be limited to that indicated by the bar manager.
- At no time will bottled beers be available to staff unless full price is paid.
- Hygiene
- Before starting work all bar staff must read the separate rules on hygiene and serving procedures which are available from the bar manager and posted at each bar.
